Joanne Gill Scholarship

San Diego/Imperial is honored to offer the Joanne Gill Scholarship
​The Joanne Gill Scholarship was established in her honor by her husband, Judge David Gill. Joanne was passionate on the value and importance of ongoing learning.  This scholarship encourages school nurses to further their education within school nursing. Each year $500 - $1,000 is awarded to the selected applicant who has been an active member of CSNO for at least one year, and is pursuing postgraduate studies related to school nursing - including Health Services Credential or Masters Program.

Please note that you will need to attach the following on the application:
- Two letters of support from professionals in school nursing or related fields
- Evidence of collegiate level enrollment (current class schedule)
- Verification of membership in CSNO for a minimum of one year prior to application (send a copy of membership card)

Christy Keesee RN, MPH

CSNO San Diego Imperial Section Awardee Joanne Gill Scholarship 2021

Christy brings over 5 years of nursing experience to her current role in school health.
She successfully completed her Master’s in Public Health from San Diego State University in 2011, her school nurse credential from Cal State Fullerton, in the Spring of 2020 and currently works as a School Nurse for San Diego Unified School District.

Her letters of recommendation describe Christy’s stellar competencies in school nursing. Her effective communication and clinical skills are evident in the health office climate she cultivates. Christy displays excellent organizational and time management skills, which alongside her clinical skills; allow her to manage her three school sites.

Christy expresses herself very professionally, using a soft and positive tone while asking very detailed and complex questions. Her graduate degree in public health allows her to routinely incorporate primary and secondary promotion strategies into her school nursing practice. Christy is known to problem solve unique issues that arise at her school sites always displaying a team approach to address and meet the health needs of her students and staff.

Amy McGuire RN, MSN

CSNO San Diego Imperial Section Awardee Joanne Gill Scholarship 2021

Amy brings over 20 years of clinical nursing experience to her current role in school health.
She successfully completed her school nurse credential from Cal State Fullerton, in the Fall of 2020 and currently works as a District Nurse in Elementary and Middle School Education K-8 for Oceanside Unified School District.

Her letters of recommendation describe Amy’s stellar competencies in school nursing. She is described as a team player, resourceful, an asset to the school nurse team with her strongest characteristic being her ability to juggle the many demands of her career, family life and her constant thirst for more knowledge. With her dedication and strong work ethic, she is able to achieve many great things as evidenced by her successful completion of projects; her continual, self-motivated drive for professional education and growth; and evolving advanced practice career as a school nurse. Amy is a “go-getter” who has an affinity already for policies and procedures, and staff training of any kind.
